Using the atlas

You can explore without an account. RuneCharted has no registration, payment, public comments or map-submission form at present. This notice covers runecharted.com.

Google Analytics

We use Google Analytics 4 to understand page visits and which book worlds and map scenes people explore. Analytics can use cookies such as _ga and a browser identifier to recognise returning browsers. Google also processes technical information such as browser and device details and approximate location derived from the connection.

Our events are page views, map opens and scene views. We remove search text, selected-place identifiers, URL fragments and unapproved URL parameters from the page addresses we send. Referrer addresses are sent without their query strings or fragments. Automatic search-term collection, Google signals and advertising personalisation are disabled in our setup.

These measurements do not prove how many individual people visited: one person may use several browsers, and shared devices can represent several people. We use the reports to improve the atlas.

Storage on your device

The atlas saves settings such as map appearance and spoiler choices in browser storage. If you import a Goodreads CSV, it is processed only in your browser. We save only recognised book titles, their Read/Currently reading/Want to read shelves and summary counts on this device. The CSV, unmatched titles, ratings and reviews are not uploaded or sent to analytics. Use Remove saved shelves on the homepage to delete the saved import. Import again to refresh your shelves; there is no automatic Goodreads account sync. It may cache visited pages and map assets to speed up later visits and support offline use. Older versions may have saved a wishlist locally. You can clear these items using your browser’s site-data controls; clearing all site data also resets your analytics preference.

Hosting and other services

Cloudflare hosts and delivers the website and can process connection information, including IP addresses, for delivery and security. Some pages request fonts from Google Fonts. Opening an external source link takes you to a separate site with its own privacy practices. Our advertising spaces are currently placeholders; no ad network is loaded.
